Mary’s Meals – One more for Christmas

Okilleedokileeeee, it’s 12th December, in other words, just a fortnight to go until the BIG DAY. I have no shame in admitting our tree has been up for a few days now, and a twinkling beauty she is too. Things are likely to get a little indulgent, some may say overindulgent over the next couple of weeks, so I am grateful to the folks at Mary’s Meals (with their pals at Whitespace here in Edinburgh) for putting together a brilliant fundraising idea this festive season. One More For Christmas is setting up a virtual holiday table, and everyone’s invited! For £12.20 you can set your place, and help feed a child for a year whilst they’re at school. That’s right, a year. It’s a lovely sentiment and such a simple way to be able to help, just that little bit. Come on foodie-folk, this is right up your street.

We’ve had a lot to be thankful for this year, in that after a long wait, we finally got our much-longed for baby bundle. Wee Felix is an incredible little dude, and as his first tooth has just appeared, new foods are being tried on a daily basis. We named him Felix, as the translation is ‘Lucky’ or ‘Fortunate’ in Latin and indeed lucky he is. Hopefully our wee dude will never see real poverty. We’ve had a lean year alright with The Silver Fox in his final year at Edinburgh Uni and me on mat leave, but still little Felix enjoys his avocadoes, sourdough bread and organic carrots. In other words a lot more than millions of poverty-stricken kids around the world will ever get to see.

Mary’s Meals’ aim is to feed poor kids around the globe whilst they’re in school. This One More For Christmas Campaign simply states that £12.20 is enough to cover a child for a year so they can get a meal at school. Have a look, if you have time. Here’s the link: https://onemoreforchristmas.com/
