Following the Tsunami which engulfed Japan’s north-eastern coast line on 11th March 2011, the world has watched in sympathy as the extent of the devastation has become increasingly apparent. Getting straight to work to help with search and rescue were the Japanese Red Cross. From the moment disaster struck, it was clear this was going to be the most immense and daunting of relief operations, and for this , donations and fundraising would be required. <\/span><\/div>\n

A local event (mirroring the one in London the previous week) was quickly set up for Edinburgh, and took place at The Quaker Meeting house on Victoria Terrace last Saturday morning. <\/span><\/div>\n

Local bakers – professional and amateur alike- contributed cakes for the event, and I popped along on Saturday morning to pick up some goodies. It’s a lovely idea to put a cakes and tea-party style event on as a way of raising cash for the aid appeal <\/span><\/div>\n

Above, the treats I took home – Lea’s beetroot cake, a ridiculously toffee-ish fudge cupcake, pretty vanilla one and a choccie number, along with a couple of kimono decorated hand-made cards. <\/span><\/div>\n

They managed to raise over <\/span>\u00a32,300 on the day which is a fantastic total. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
