And, well, if it has, hope you really enjoyed it all! We munched our way through some good things, surprisingly not all of it featured meat, chocolate and cheese. Soups were a bit of a highlight, as I&#8217;ve been weaning little baby Felix and soups seem to be a great way to get the veggies in. He can also be seen chomping on bits of courgette, apple, mango, bananas and carrots most of the day, so it&#8217;s all going well. The Silver Fox and I went particularly gaga over a very simple cauliflower and leek velout\u00e9 (basic recipe below) and anything with lentils and sweet potatoes. It was a great show with Tony Singh doing his &#8216;kitchen cupboard&#8217; raiding thing, some chat about the humble soy bean and some food and restaurant trend predictions for the coming year with Chef John Quigley of <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/red-onion.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Red Onion<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in Glasgow, Hilary of <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/mymonkfish.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MyMonkfish<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and myself.\u00a0<\/span>The link to listen again (available until the end of January) can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b04vfc2r\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>this link<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As some of you will know, I&#8217;m an avid reader of Bon Appetit magazine from the states. I really like to keep up with ingredients, restaurant openings and cooking styles across the pond. Check out those gorgeous caulis!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leilappetit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/310542386_4330783172_z.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1352\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leilappetit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/310542386_4330783172_z.jpg\" alt=\"310542386_4330783172_z\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/leilappetit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/310542386_4330783172_z.jpg 427w, https:\/\/leilappetit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/310542386_4330783172_z-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>CAULIFLOWER AND LEEK VELOUT\u00c9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1 head of ccauliflowercut into small florets<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2 large or 3 smaller leeks, sliced, rinsed<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1 medium onion finely chopped<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2 crushed garlic cloves<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1tbsn butter<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Olive or rapeseed oil<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seasoning as you like &#8211; I used coriander powder and ground cumin, salt and pepper<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2 litres chicken or vegetable stock<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Single cream to finish<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pancetta or Parma ham crisps to finish<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a large stock pan, melt the butter and oil and add the onion and garlic &#8217;til the onions soften.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On a high heat, add the cauliflower and let it start to caramelise &#8211; the smell is amazing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add the leeks and sweat them out too for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add the seasoning and let the whole mix do its thing for about five minutes on a medium heat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add the stock , bring back to the boil and allow to simmer for a good 15 minutes until the veggies are well cooked. Check seasoning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Blitz the whole lot with a stick blender and then pass through a sieve for a nice silky soup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before you&#8217;re ready to serve, add the cream and bring the heat up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Serve up and add some tasty, salty little pancetta crisps and another swirl or cream or creme fraiche.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Devour!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>A very happy new year everyone &#8211; I hope December&#8217;s eatingfestivities haven&#8217;t taken their toll too drastically on the ol&#8217; waistline.
