Hanover Street seems to be one of those weird places for restaurants. It’s decidedly hit or miss, but the good news for townies is that recently a new wave of restaurants have opened and look like they’ll be around for a while (as opposed to that for some unknown reason ‘doomed’ Mexican Street Food place that literally opened for one day…). <\/span><\/div>\n

One of the recent newbies is ‘Yes Sushi<\/a>‘. I had it on good recommendation from Tracy Griffen that they were doing ‘Australian-standard’ sushi, and so I went along with a few of the girls from work to try it out. <\/span><\/div>\n

We weren’t disappointed, and the gang were impressively ambitious in their ordering . Actually, probably more than I was in all honesty!<\/span><\/div>\n

I got the love for pan-Asian food when I was living in Vancouver, and so far have found Edinburgh’s offerings a bit lacking. This place seemed to strike a good balance between design-y but functional interior and a menu that offers literally a rainbow of choices of sushi, but also a choice of more Western-palate friendly dishes for the less ambitious. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I hadn’t had agedashi tofu for ages, and as soon as I tasted it, was reminded of how much I love Japanese food. This is deep-fried tofu and served in a wee bit of dashi broth, but is so clean tasting. <\/span><\/div>\n

Next up, were some vegetarian gyozas. Again, this is something I got hooked on back in the BC days (Gyoza King<\/a> – I *heart* you) and these were a good example of the wee dumplings. I’ve made more than my share of these at home, and if you can imagine a kind of hand made ravioli, you  get how labour intensive these things are to make. So when I see them on a menu, it’s a dead cert for ordering! <\/span><\/div>\n

Lastly, I had my tuna maki rolls , and they were so clean and fresh. I’m crazy for pickled ginger, so managed to steal some extra from my tablemates. Thanks!<\/div>\n

    One of the other girls had this stunningly-presented selection of sushi, and the cleared plate at the end of it seemed to be a pretty good review. <\/div>\n
